Tomorrow, September 9th 2015, is the 10th anniversary of DynamicAccounting.net. In conjunction with that, I’m launching another Analytics for Dynamics GP product. This one is a little different, it’s an Excel based historical reporting package.
The idea behind this is that a lot of people ask for Excel versions of common historical reports. The big three are the AR and AP Historical Aged Trial Balance reports (HATB) and the Historical Stock Status report. Usually this need comes from audit, banking or analysis requests. Those can be tough groups to ignore.
I’d built these a couple of times for specific clients, but they can be tough to get right. Excel has some idiosyncrasies that make this challenging, I really wanted to see a more widespread use, so I set out to tackle these three reports. I added the Historical Inventory Trial Balance report, since its really preferred to the Historical Stock Status for reconciling to GL.
What sets these reports apart is the back end. I’m using the same SQL stored procedures that Microsoft ships with GP for the SSRS versions of these reports. These should perfectly match the SSRS versions of these reports. If they don’t, we need to talk to MS. I wanted them to perfectly match GP and this was the best way to do that.
The really special part is how cool it is to set your parameters, refresh Excel and see that data roll in. The reports bring in the raw data and then parse them into pivot tables for summary, detail, and other types of reporting. You can use the reports I’ve included or build your own beautiful one from the raw data.
Like my other Analytics for Dynamics GP product, this a 5 minutes per report type of install. Security might take another 5 minutes. Install is completely documented and everyone who has tested this or used the sales analytics product has been able to get it installed.
I’ve priced these at $349 for the set. That is less than 30 minutes of billable time per report. Even if you have the stored procedure handy you can’t build one of these and work through the issues in less than a couple of hours. I think this is a bargain at this price. Frankly, it would be tough to create just one report at this price.
Historical Excel Reporting officially goes live tomorrow, but you can get it today at mpolino.com/gp/historical-excel-reporting/.
For partners, you can benefit from this too. At checkout there is a spot for partner name and city/state. When companies using GP buy and fill this out, the partner gets a share of sale. Feel free to email me for details at mpolino@mpolino.com
I’m hoping that this product fills an important niche and really simplifies some of those difficult requests.
